Why Hire An Architect?
That’s a good question and one we encounter almost daily. If you are building a house, why not just get a set of plans from one of those on-line services or from a plan book? If you are doing a commercial project, why not just hire a contractor?
The answer is simple. It’s something called value.
At DAVID H. WULFF, ARCHITECT we provide that extra value that contributes to the success of your project as opposed to being something you just settle for. This is why you hire us:
- We are trained to see the big picture. Something beyond just giving you a building.
- We look beyond your immediate requirements to design flexible buildings that will adapt with your changing needs.
- We solve problems creatively.
- We can save you money by maximizing your investment.
- A well designed building can reduce your bills and increase its long term value.
- We can manage your project from site selection to completion.
- We will coordinate all the specialized consultants required for your project. These may include: landscape architects, engineers, interior designers, builders and subcontractors.
- We can save you time.
- By managing the key components of your project allows you to focus on your main business, eliminating many potential headaches.
- We create total environments, interior and exterior, which are pleasing and functional for you.
Where Do You Start?
The best way to begin is for you, the owner, to reflect on what you bring to your individual project: your knowledge, experience, needs, desires, aspirations, and personal opinions. Remember, this is your project.
Few people realize how complicated it is to build – that is until they find themselves lost in the maze of design options, building codes, zoning laws, contractors, and so on. No two building projects are alike, so there is no clear-cut path to follow.
Whether you are remodeling, adding on, or building from scratch, DAVID H. WULFF, ARCHITECT, can guide the way.
Most building projects start with a want or need. “I need more file space in my office.” Or, “We’ve outgrown our house.” How does this need or want get translated into a three-dimensional space? That’s what the architect is trained to do. We can show you alternatives and options that you might never think of on your own.
The Beginning
We recommend you begin with a list of your wants, needs and desires. We call this a “shopping list”.
The next step is to select the architect, but how do you do that? Interviewing more than one architect is essential. Select an architect like you would your doctor, dentist, or lawyer. Recommendations from friends are always a good starting point, then review their web site or visit previous projects. Remember though that the previous projects were developed based on someone else’s wants, needs and desires. Your project will be developed just for you.
The most important thing when selecting an architect is to choose one who listens to you. Someone you feel comfortable with. You are about to develop a very personal relationship with this person, so you need to make sure that when you say something, you know that he/she is actually hearing what you are saying.
At DAVID H. WULFF ARCHITECT, we listen!
